Attendance

School Hours

8.50 a.m. – 3.20 p.m.  Lunchtime is 12.00 noon – 1.00 p.m.

Children’s regular and punctual attendance at school is extremely important to their education.  All staff have a responsibility to support this and encourage good attendance.

We cannot accept responsibility for children arriving at school before 8.40 a.m. and would ask parents that children do not arrive before this time.  Children who go home to lunch should not return before 1.00 p.m. and should report to the Senior Lunchtime Supervisor on arrival. The school is not open after 5.00 p.m. (4.30 p.m. on a Friday) for children to collect forgotten items.  Please note that no children are permitted to play on the activity equipment at the end of the school day.  This is for Health and Safety reasons.

The school bell will be rung at 8.50 a.m. for the start of the morning session in order that all children may have time to hang up coats/bags etc. and be in the classroom ready for registration at 8.55 a.m.  Parents are asked not to remain in the classroom after this time in order that the teacher may begin the session on time.  Once the children have settled into school it is encouraged that parents leave them at the door so that their independence may be encouraged.

Absence

In all cases of absence from school a telephone call to the school office must be made on the first day explaining the nature of the absence.  This should be followed up on the child’s return by a written explanation.

If a call is not made to school by 9.15 a.m. the school will contact parents requesting an explanation (this is a legal requirement).

If the child is absent due to a holiday a LOAF (Leave Of Absence Form) should be completed prior to the holiday taking place.  All requests will be decided in line with the school’s attendance policy.  Please see Attendance policy for full details.

If a parent wishes to take a child out of school during the day or before the end of the school day (3.20 p.m.) prior notice must be given to the class teacher/school office.

Attendance is monitored and you will receive written communication if attendance levels or lateness levels are of concern or fall below an acceptable level.  Full support will be given to help improve these levels.
